Hometown Blues

It is often in life that you may move away to another place, leaving your hometown behind. New journeys take us on explorations, making us grow stronger. What is it about your hometown that makes you crave to be back. Do you have the same things in your new town as your hometown? Do you have family in your hometown, but not in the new town? Are you missing friends that you grew up with from your hometown?

Let’s start with what makes it your hometown. Born and raised, you grow up in the only known world, till you start exploring and learn. Being born in a town gives anyone that home feeling, or simply, a place to call home.

Then, as you grow old enough to start school, you soon build relationships with other kids. Relationships make us settle into one place. We need to have someone to share our experiences with. Experiencing the world alone can be very lonely, and no person wants to be lonely. Gaining friendship is crucial to our role as human beings. Friends provide support and trust, in turn, build our character and personality.

If you left your home town, then you would leave your friends behind. Leaving the ones you already know, perhaps the ones that you grew up means leaving that experience of building your character and personality behind. What do I mean when I say this? Well, when you gain experience in anything, it leaves a dent. It is something that you cannot forget. The memories you get to look back on make growing up with friends that much more important. If you can say that your friends were always there for you, supported you, or that you and your friends got into trouble together, that leaves room for lifetime memories. A perfectly good reason why one might get the hometown blues.

What about work life? Does your job pull you away from your hometown, giving you hometown blues? Who wants to leave their hometown to go work elsewhere? Sometimes we just have to. Especially if it means providing for the family. Some people may have the option of staying in their hometown while traveling back and forth to their jobs. Giving them more reason why they may grow weary of their job, only to desire a place of rest in their hometown. Hometown blues can definitely set in when you are on the road.

One last reason someone may experience hometown blues, is leaving their family behind. Are you close to you family? Do you spend every holiday with your family? It is times like these that make moving away hard. The simple thought of celebrating holidays without family can be disheartening. Then, when your family starts asking when you are coming home, you fall deeper into the hometown blues. When you know that someone is earning for your return, the thought of returning home only makes you feel better in the moment. When you try to forget about it, those hometown blues lie deep within.

If you have ever experienced hometown blues, then maybe after reading this, you will have some insight to why you feel that way. Just don’t get too sick.

The Fastest Growing City in the USA

Visit and move to Murfreesboro, Tennessee

A recession does not keep everybody down. If you take a look around the United States, you can be sure to find towns that are booming, and growing in population and structure. Recession is definitely a part of change when people make decisions to move. But where should one move to? There is a fairly good size town called Murfreesboro in the lovely state of Tennessee. Need to move? Check out this town for a wonderful place to move.

Murfreesboro, Tennessee had a population of 171,753 according to Wikipedia, during April 2009. That is up from 81,393 residents in 2005. The population increase is seeing an almost 50% increase and the town is still booming.

The town is undergoing a major renovation, ranging from a brand new hospital and medical park, additions to the current mall already standing, new restaurants, and a whole new outdoor shopping mall. The outdoor shopping mall is called The Avenue, located off the newly designed roadway, Medical Center Parkway, just off I-24. In addition to buildings, Murfreesboro is trying to stay consistent with it’s population growth by adding more streets and upgrading the interstate areas that run through the town. When I was child growing up here, there was only one interstate exit. Then, eventually there became two. That was many years ago. Now, there are a total of 4 interstate exits bringing you directly into Murfreesboro. Each exit enters into a different section of Murfreesboro, but access to the entire town can be found by driving within the city or taking shortcuts through neighborhoods.

Although this giant boom in population caused major upgrading, and the space for traffic has expanded, there still seems to be a large crowd on the roads. Especially during the middle of the day when people start to get out and about. If you would rather avoid traffic, it is best to stay home, or go out early in the morning or later in the evening. These are the best times to get around the town in a timely manner.

A few attractions that bring people to Murfreesboro, Tennessee is that this town is an old Civil War era town. The Stones River National Battlefield is very popular. Every year there is a festival off the main strip in town, Broad Street, that mocks the Civil War era. Log homes, cooking, hand crafts, and people dressed in civil war uniforms walk the area event, giving it the appealing dramatic scene of being in those ages. This is an event for all ages to discover and a chance to learn more about the town.

One of the reasons why the town stays booming is Middle Tennessee State University. This college stays packed out. The students have to park really far to get a parking spot. There have been new parking lots added and buses pick up at these lots to help students get to their classes faster. There has also been an entire new Greek Row built for those involved in fraternities and sororities. The town has also built a new Walmart Supercenter directly across from the backside of the college. This store usually attracts college students, but is very convenient for them as well to gather school supplies. Along with the Walmart Supercenter is an entire shopping center. Students can get their hair cut, catch a meal, get a car wash, shop for groceries, and even go for a workout, all in one place. Living a college life does not have to be so withdrawn.

If you want a new place to live and have not placed yourself yet, then be sure to look up Murfreesboro, Tenneessee. This is one of the greatest, close to home towns in the United States. From a once average town, it has now become an upper class city, waiting for your move. Come see for yourself.

Vocation Vacations: Trip on a Deal

This week you can trip on a deal, digging for buried treasure in the island if Curacao. Taking a vocation vacation, or swimming in the world’s largest pool in Chile. And, the world’s strangest museums. Plus, the first tourist hit Iraq. That and more on this week’s, Trip on a Deal.

There has been a lot of Incan newspapers about Iraq since 1990, but not much in the travel section. One tour company is trying to change all that. Hinterland Travel believes Iraq has made a big turn around, and they say the mood in the country is upbeat, vibrant, and improving everyday. Currently, operator Jeff Hahn expects that a sixteen to seventeen day tour is efficient, but tourists need to be flexible in dates and itineraries.

The New York Times reports the first tour just returned, and has an amazing video of their trip on their site. Just how safe is it considering that minor detail of a war going on? The ministry of a tourism offered the tour company armed guards, but they were denied. They chose to drive around Iraq in a minibus.

If you are feeling really adventurous, the tour is starting around $2800, land only, with absolutely no possibility with no travel insurance.

Now, somewhere in the Caribbean, there is a great treasure. At the midtown, Manhattan, at the Essex house, and the tourism department at the island of Curacao. They have buried $500,000, somewhere on the island of Curacao. They are going to send 10 people on a crazy scavenger hunt, like an amazing race, in just a few months. Ten people on a treasure hunt, going on the hill, beaches, hotels, to find the keys to open up that treasure. And not only is there hidden treasure at the Sands of Curacao, but they are giving away seventy free trips to American tourists, one a day, over the next 70 days, if you log on to CuracaoTreasure.com.

Now, here is a neat vacation idea, vocation vacation. Spend a few days driving your dream career, with the help of a mentor. VocationVacations.com offers a 125 careers:

  • TV Producer
  • Chocolatier
  • Dude Rancher
  • Boat Captain
  • Yoga Instructor
  • Architect

Now it does take about one to three days of your time, and about $500 to $3000. Who knows, with your newfound experience, maybe you can find someone to pay you for the same thing later.

There are a lot of tools out there on Facebook and other sites that allow you to show the world where you have been. The virtual pen and map kind of thing, but many of them are complex downloading which most of us are not too keen about. Enter 29Travels.com, it’s a simple tool. Just check the countries you have been too, then copy and past the code to your webpage. Takes no time at all. Now, getting to all those countries so you can fill in the map, that make take a little more time. That is the fun part.

The picture of the week comes from Algarrobo Chile. It is the world’s largest swimming pool. Twenty acres total. It cost 4 billion dollars to build. The deepest part 115 feet. It is all part of the Alfonso Del Mar Resort . They even let sailboats on the pool.

A list of really strange museums compiled by uncoached.com. There is the museum of bad art, a.k.a MOBA, in Massachussetts, with engaging pieces like Gerez, the clown, and another one called, In the Cat’s Mouth. It is so deep. Then there is the museum of odd socks, for knitters everywhere to display and name their work. Yes, name their work. So these socks are called the tales of woe. Another one, the Virtual Banana Museum, in Auburn Washington. It is typically dedicated to bananas. With great moments in banana history, including rare , racy 1920’s banana photos. It just captures the moment.

15 Free Things to Do in San Diego for the Entire Family
It is a blast living in San Diego. La Jolla is Spanish for "the jewel."
http://www.associatedcontent.com

Vermont is a very nice place to see since it’s close to our nation’s capital. See what other people have found to do while they were there.

Things to do When Visiting Vermont

Vermont is very historical as it is next to Washington D.C. Here you will find plenty to do to honor this nation. History will come alive. If you are looking for a few suggestions, we have some things that you might like to try that might be a bit out of the ordinary. So, keep reading and start taking notes to plot that map for your next trip to Vermont.

Brookefield, Vermont has a nice bridge, but we suggest that you have a vehicle that is ready for the trip. Why is this? They don’t’ call it the floating bridge for nothing. Many have tried to cross it. Some have tried crossing it while riding a Harley. Just be careful. During the winter they close it off, but during the summer, they open it right back up for all the travelers to enjoy.

While everyone knows of all the history that is in Vermont we chose some of those fun sites that many just sort of drive past. This is why we chose one that was in Burlington, Vermont. Here you will find the world’s tallest filing cabinet. Now, that is a filing cabinet!

Are you a fan of Ben and Jerry? Then you will love this site. Come on over to Burlington, Vermont and you can see the site that Ben and Jerry ice cream first began. While you can’t see the building many people love to stop and take a picture of, there is the plaque that stands in memory of where it all began. Who would have thought that what was once a store that sold that ice cream and was demolished in 1978, would still remain a tourist attraction for ice cream lovers all over?

The statue in front of the library in Barre, Vermont leaves everyone in awe. It is normally known as the whispering statue due to its location however it was supposed to mean something more. This statue stood for the youth of Vermont and Barre that have become triumphant and have succeeded in life. It’s a great site to see. It was built in the 1920’s during the war days. What a nice statue.

So here are a few things that besides your normal history, you should give it a try. Most people wouldn’t think to stop at these places. We didn’t want you to miss out. If you are looking for things to do there is still more to do. Enjoy what they have to offer and don’t miss any chances. That’s the best thing that tourists can tell you. So, there you have it. A starter guide of what to see in Vermont. You will not be disappointed at all there is to do. We can assure you of that.

Tourist Attractions for Utah

This article will help you with finding what to do in Utah. You’ll love visiting these places as they are really unique.

Discovering Utah

If you are thinking about a trip to Utah do we have some places there that you should try. Some of them you might have heard of if you are a frequent visitor or they might all be new to you. So, if you are interested keep reading as we have some fun adventures ready to share with you. Off we go!

People call things, “Hole in the walls.” But have you ever heard of a hole in the rock? Well, if you haven’t then you need to go to Moab, Utah where you can see the big hole in the rock. While you think this is some nature made hole, this isn’t the case. This whole was actually made by a guy who drilled for twelve years. Inside this rock is a statue that is devoted to Franklin D. Roosevelt and then a house with fourteen rooms. Wouldn’t you love that as well?

If you love air craft and history then Utah has the place for you. Hop on over to Wendover, Utah where the Airfield Museum is. Many tourists have said that this is a great attraction. Here you will also find the Atomic Bomb Loading Pit that was used during WWII. You can even walk through the plane that was used in the movie Con Air.

If you are looking for something that isn’t man made but nature made that is also really big, then come on over to Bingham, Utah to the Bingham Canyon Mine. It is really the biggest pit in the world. You’ll see why when you get here. It’s just a half hour away from Salt Lake City.

Utah is really the place for the world’s biggest things. They are home to the biggest pit. They are also home to the longest wooden bridge. You can see this bridge in Dewey, Utah. Well, it used to stand. You can go and see what a fire did to the bridge. Many remember that bridge and now they are asking for donations to build it once again. If you would love to see it restored, give to the cause. Just kidding. Or are we?

Come see what Utah has to show you. It’s a really down home sort of place that many people fall in love with as they are so relaxed. This is the type of place that you just take a few attractions and go see while you are driving through or what not. So, come on over and make yourself at home. We have plenty to do here in Utah. While you look and see what we have to offer we do all the entertaining. So grab the family and come to us.

Tourist Attractions for Texas

Nothing like Texas

Texas is the state that I’m about to call home so I have been doing some digging as where to stop off and take the kids. Therefore, if you are like me you might be looking for someplace whether you are just passing through or stopping in for a longer time. Let’s look at some of the places we all might be visiting.

In Amarillo, Texas you might find it corny, but you could be one to enjoy odd and end things that you can stop and take pictures of. Here we have one of those for you. They are the giant legs. Built by a millionaire, the legs catch everyone off guard, but its still fun to go see while you are driving through.

If you want a wild restaurant with people dressed in a nice southern style as well as some place you can get a nice Texan dinner then you need to go on over to the Big Texan Steak Ranch. Started in 1970, you will find that this is a very bright building, but you will love it never the less. Men love the steak and you’ll love the ambiance.

If you are a pack rat you might find this one fits your style even more. You can find this in the backyard of a house that someone actually owns. They have nicknamed this the Cathedral of Junk and it’s located in Austin, Texas. Made to be a man’s club house, you might find it a bit odd. We think it’s just interesting. It’s like an awkward piece of art that no one can quite explain. Though, many come to see it when they are just passing through. Everything you can imagine went into creating this.

This was my personal favorite as I love history. Found in Waxahachie, Texas, you can see where the bad boys were once taken. It is nine stories tall and has a history of throwing the books at those who broke the law. It was created in 1849 with a very interesting look to it. You will be sure to love this. I know I did as I have mapped places I felt I had to visit.

There is plenty to do and much to see. Come on over for some good old southern cooking and some of that down home fun on the farm. You will have tons to see and much to enjoy. So, bring the whole family on over for tons of fun. Stay a day, stay a week. Just have some fun. We know we are planning on it when we go there. So, maybe we’ll see you.

Tourist Attractions for Tennessee

Seeing Tennessee

If summer vacation isn’t over for you yet, then you need to take that last trip of the summer before the kids go back to school. There is much to do and see in Tennessee. Looking for different things to do? Then follow us as we take you to some of our favorite spots. Here we go!

If you remember the movie Walking Tall then you will remember Buford Husser. Come on over to Adamsville, TN and you can see where he lived. People remember him as a martyr. Touring through the house that was turned into a museum you can hear some of the stories about this famous man from someone who knew him personally. The museum is ran by his aunt who has a lot to say about her favorite nephew.

Chattanooga, TN here we come. Come on over to Ruby Falls. You will love the scenic views of the falls. Those who love geology will love this cavern that leads to the falls. Those who have been there before have reported on the different geographical features. However, be prepared because many people love this one and find it very attractive. Therefore some of the tours can get pretty lengthy, but those who have gone through have said it was worth the wait.

If you like heights then we have the site for you also located in Chattanooga; TN. Lookout Mountain has this nice railway that will take you all the way to the top. If you want to brave the tilt until you get to the incline you can stop off at the Civil War battlefield. I would try this as I love history. From this view, you can see six states. It is pretty crazy.

In Crossville, TN there is yet another site that you might enjoy. It is called the minister’s Tree House. The person who built the house is much alive. It’s a site to see all right. This tree house was actually a chapel. If you go, you might get to talk to old Horace and hear some of the good old stories. Age has really crept up with it, but it’s a great place to go and see with a great history.

As you can see there is much to do. Some of them are full of nature. Others are things you might find odd. They are all things that people can find interesting nevertheless. You might find something else along the way to do as well. So, if you are looking for some fun here are a few suggestions, but then look for other odd and end things. Many talk to those running these tours to get ideas of other places they can go.
